About Me…

My name is Maria and I’m an artist and designer based in the northern suburbs of Wellington, New Zealand. My passion for art began early in life, I spent much of my childhood being encouraged alongside my mother whilst she painted. 

I went on to study Graphic Design and have worked in this industry on and off for the past 22yrs. During the covid lockdown of 2020 I started illustrating with ink pens. I enjoy the challenge and detail that can be achieved through this medium. I’ve always been deeply inspired by New Zealand’s unique native species and natural environment. Today, I create detailed, hand-drawn illustrations of Aotearoa’s flora and fauna using fineline ink pens, drawing predominantly based on my own photography.

Recently, I’ve begun incorporating watercolour washes into some of my illustrations, bringing an added layer of realism and depth to my work.
